REGISTRATION

The bad news is that due to an overwhelming number of applicants in 2007, the 2008 race will have a lottery registration. What does that mean? It is the same thing as the NYC Marathon. Basically, we all need to go to www.active.com on March 4th and register. You will enter your credit card # and all your info. They will then notify everyone on April 1st who was randomly selected to run. NYC the odds are 1 in 4. I bet this is closer to 1 in 2 or 1 in 3. If you are selected your credit card will be charged at that time. If not, you will not be charged.

The good news is that I want to go no matter what. As long as one of us gets selected, let's go. In fact, if I get picked and somebody else doesn't, I'll give my registration to you.

Please go to www.active.com on Tuesday to register!!!!

Napa Valley

I've been researching hotels in Napa Valley. Yountville appears to be geared only toward couples, so I looked up the Best Western in Calistoga. Remember that one? It's $157 per night for a room with two queens. Sounds perfect to me. We should consider booking this sooner than later since October may be high season for Napa, and it could fill up quickly. I can reserve some rooms now and we can always cancel..... If so, how many should I get? This is a logistical nightmare - help!

hotel

We're booked! We are staying at the JW Marriott at Union Square on Saturday, 10/18 and Sunday, 10/19. We'll figure out who wants to continue on to Napa later this Spring.

Next step....registering for the race. Mom, keep an eye on it.

group exercise...

So I was thinking... a good way for us to keep in touch and support each other while we train is to run the occasional 5K together! If one comes up in Houston, Austin, or Dallas we could meet up in said city and run. (i know all our schedules are crazy and it might not work out every time but once every 2 months or so would be nice) so if you see one coming up in your area post it. I know I could use the push!!

with that being said.... http://www.cowtownmarathon.org/

Marathon Course

Check out the course map. It starts in Union Square and finishes in Golden Gate Park.

Come In All Runners!

Hey there runners and vino lovers! I'm so ready for this challenge and I know you all are too. Most importantly this allows us to go to town on some great food and wine afterwards and not feel guilty one bit!

Ok, ok... if we just want to head straight to Napa you might be able to pull my arm!

Go team!
The hills of San Francisco won't stop us but they might slow us down a little. I figure I can always walk if it gets too challenging but breakfast afterwards is what counts. And, a side trip to wine country! Anyway, maybe we should skip the race and go straight to Napa.
Go Hannah!

Connected in Houston

I'd like to start by giving a big shout out to Claire, Mom, Brie, Andrea, and Catherine! Without you, I'd never do this. :)

We really have to wait until March to start our program? Boo! I'm ready to start now!

Training Schedule

I will post (if it lets me), a training schedule for Hannah, Andrea, and Catherine (?). In short, it assumes that you don't run at all and slowly builds your mileage up. It is very doable. The program starts the first week of March. Mom, all you need to do is maintain all spring and then you can start that 12 week Hal Higdon program over again in the summer. Brie, you're a pro already.

Welcome to Running For Wine 2008

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for committing to this endeavor. Not everyone understands what it takes to run and drink your heart out. I'm here to say that by the end of this training period, not only will you be prepared to run a half marathon successfully, but you will also be able to drink all of your competitors under the table. I promise. We'll need to stick by each other after the excitement of the early weeks of training wear off and the hot summer months zap our enthusiasm. If we can make it through August being able to run 7 miles AND drink half a bottle of wine in one sitting with only a buzz, it'll be downhill towards October 18th. So lace up those running shoes, sharpen your cork screw, and get ready for Running for Wine 2008!
